Superior Evening Telegram 1948
Mr. And Mrs John T McCusker, Jr., 913 Baxter Ave., announce
birth of a daughter, Mora Christine, September 15, at St. Mary’s
Hospital in Duluth (but convinced I am a collage of bits and
pieces from far off reaches of the cosmos).
Grew up in Superior, Wisconsin. Spent several weeks, each summer,
vacationing on the St. Croix Flowage in Gordon, Wisconsin. Family
moved to the Flowage in 1973. Most of my seven siblings still
live there. My Spiritual Home is the Douglas County Wildlife
Refuge and Bird Sanctuary.
Earned Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Arts from the University
of Wisconsin, Superior. Areas of Proficiency: drawing, painting,
pottery. Experience with: photography, printmaking, metalwork,
sculpture, design, writing.
Between the ages of three and five, I mastered the world of
coloring books and crayons. I
moved on to poster paints and drawing in Nursery School.
Over the years, my creative passion and my relationship with
the natural environment merged to become the force that drives
me. It maintains an opportunity for me to re-see the world as
a collection of fascinating shapes and colors. My artwork is
a freeing expression of creative assemblies of reactions to
what my senses absorb; “sounds” of my emotional,
intellectual, and spiritual voice.
Although I enjoy other artists’ work, I am content creating
in a vacuum. I choose not to allow myself to be overly influenced
by what other artists are doing. I find it necessary to rely
upon my own soul as the purest reservoir from which to draw.
Every once in a while, though, when walking down the store aisle
where the Crayola Crayons are stocked, I find myself stopping
to take a whiff. Aaah! There’s nothing quite like the
smell of a box of Crayolas.
